Wenger - Chelsea attack more this season

By Joe Brewin

Arsène Wenger believes Chelsea look a more potent attacking threat this season under the stewardship of Andre Villas-Boas.

The Blues have started their Premier League campaign brightly, impressing at the sharp end of the table with 20 goals in their opening nine league matches.

Wenger rejected suggestions that Chelsea were a defensive outfit under previous manager Carlo Ancelotti but he thinks they have a new lease of life going forward.

“It looks to me like they attack a lot,” said Wenger. “But under Ancelotti they did as well.

“I cannot say Ancelotti was a defensive coach. I liked him as a man and as a manager as well. But maybe they have a bit more creative potential as well than last season.

“Ancelotti bought Torres in the winter,” added Wenger. “Last year he was not completely himself. This year he looks back to what he was before.

“Juan Mata combining with him makes them a bit more creative. I like him for his final ball.”
